1. Fake government applications
Fraudsters impersonate police, tax, treasury officials, etc., asking people to install fake applications like, Taxes, VneID, etc. through .apk files or Android’s app store. These applications contain malicious code, requiring access/control rights to customer’s phone in order to gain access to customer’s account and transfer money to fraudster’s accounts.
2. Impersonating a bank employee
Fraudster impersonate bank employee and invite customer to increase their credit limit. They will instruct customers to click on fake link with an interface similar to MSB's official website and then ask cardholder to enter card information and OTP. If the cardholder follows fraudster’s instructions, His/her card information will be stolen and money will be transfer to fraudster’s account shortly after.
3. Impersonating friends or relatives
Fraudsters create fake accounts pretend to be customer’s friends or relatives and ask for a quick loan or money transfer to their bank account with the name as same as customer’s loved one. Nowadays, fraudsters can even make a video calls using Deepfake technology to completely gain their victims trust.
4. Fake banks SMS Brand name
Fake messages are really similar to bank's real messages but contain a link to fake MSB website. If customer enter personal information and bank account information on the website, that information will be exposed to the fraudster.
5. Work-From-Home scam
Fraudster will asks the victim to place online orders but victim will have and then they will receive back the principal plus commission. Initially, for small value orders, the victim will actually receive real rewards . However, after several small value orders, the victim will be requested to order big value items with their owned money and ,of course, with higher commission. The victim, most of the time, will continued to make an order but this time they will not receive any money. Fraudster will continue to request victim to make other orders and promise the victim that he/she will receive all his/her rewards.
