Warning about fraudulent tricks to appropriate assets in banking activities
31/12/2025Theend of the year is always the time when fraud property appropriation becomes extremely complicated, with increasingly sophisticated tricks, causing great damage to people. In order to increase vigilance for people and customers, banks implement warnings about fraudulent tricks property appropriation popular today related to banking activities.

- Impersonating a bank employee: The subject contacts customers from a landline phone number to notify them of credit card fees and instructs them to pay to receive a refund of these fees. After that, the subject will instruct you to access the fake link and ask you to fill in your personal information and credit card information. After obtaining the information, the subject performed fraudulent transactions to appropriate money from the customer’s card.
- Impersonating officials of state agencies, electricity, water, and telecommunications companies: Fraudsters access people’s accurate information to create trust, thereby requesting access to unfamiliar links or installing fake applications containing malicious code to control and take over the device and then transfer money to the customer’s account.
- Impersonating large businesses: Fraudsters ask victims to transfer money to business accounts with account names similar to large corporations or companies to pay bills and service fees related to those businesses. After receiving the money, they will block the contact and appropriate the money.
- Fraudulent sending of Short Message Service messages to banks: Fraudsters send fake messages of the bank’s brand messages containing fake links asking people to access, enter card information, OTP code to perform acts of appropriation or install applications containing malicious code to take control of mobile devices.
To ensure safe and secure accounts, Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank recommends that customers:
- Do not provide confidential information to anyone (including banks) including: login password, OTP authentication code, Soft Token PIN, card information and other personal information.
- Do not install or let others install software of unknown origin on your phone. Install and authenticate biometrics on the Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank mBank application provided by Google Play for Android operating systems and App Store for iOS operating systems.
- Turn off Accessibility permission on Android devices for all apps using this permission.
- Always verify the recipient’s identity before transferring money by calling the recipient’s phone number directly. Do not make authentic calls via chat applications (including video calls).
- In case you suspect your phone has downloaded a fake or fraudulent application immediately disconnect the network, turn off the phone and bring it to a reputable store to check and remove the fake application (if any), and support restoring the phone’s factory settings to ensure there is no malicious code left on the device.
- Regularly monitor balance fluctuation notifications and notify immediately if you detect anything unusual.
