In October 2024, Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MSB) officially joined the Alliance for Green Commercial Banks, a global initiative led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to promote sustainable finance and reduce environmental impacts in banking operations. This milestone reflects MSB’s strong commitment to pioneering a green banking model, contributing to sustainable development and creating long-term value for customers and the community.
From March 24 to 28, 2025, MSB was one of two Vietnamese member banks of the Alliance invited to participate in the pilot program “Excellence in Green Commercial Banking Immersion Lab”, organized by the Alliance. The program brought together pioneering banks in the region, including institutions from Thailand and the Philippines.
The event featured experience-sharing sessions on green transformation journeys, with insights from representatives of leading global financial institutions such as HSBC, Standard Chartered, Citi, Bank of China (Hong Kong), Crédit Agricole, and BBVA, as well as market regulators and reputable advisory organizations.
During the program, participating banks were introduced to eight core components of the Excellence in Green Commercial Banking Framework, developed by IFC. These components cover all aspects of banking operations related to the green transition, providing guidance for integrating sustainability into business strategies and advancing toward net-zero carbon emissions in the future.

Participation in this program marks an important step in supporting MSB’s ongoing green transformation roadmap, including integrating sustainability into its business strategy, expanding its green finance portfolio, and strengthening its capacity in environmental and social risk management.
