Warning about fake bank messages to steal money (Short Message Service brandname)
01/01/2022Recently, in Vietnam, there have been cases of fraud and impersonation of some banks with increasingly sophisticated tricks, aiming to appropriate money from customers’ accounts/cards. Specifically:
- Messages impersonating the bank’s brandname: The subject sent a Short Message Service message impersonating the bank’s brandname to trick customers into accessing a fake link, similar to the bank’s electronic banking service interface. Then ask to provide security information such as name, login password, OTP code, card information, etc. to appropriate money.
- Fake call from a bank official: The fraudster uses a personal phone (not the bank’s Hotline number), pretending to be a bank employee, calling to assist in checking the wrong money transfer, to authenticate information, unlock the account, etc. The subject will then send a Short Message Service and instruct the customer to provide information on a link leading to a fake bank website, asking to enter login information, OTP code password, etc. to take over. money.
Note:Bank staff will NEVER ask customers for passwords or OTP codes under any circumstances.
